FAQs

When do sessions take place?

The Academy is open for classes from 9am to 9pm on weekdays and from 9am to 7pm at weekends.  The timetabling of tuition is dependent upon your availability, the availability of the teacher and the availability of a classroom at the Academy.  We liaise with you to find the most convenient time for your tuition or your child’s tuition to take place.

How much does tuition cost?

The cost of the tuition is dependent upon the subject, level and number of students in the class. For first time students, there is a one off registration fee of £20.   For further details, please contact the Academy 1nternational office by telephone (0151 220 6446) or email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. When, where and how can I pay for classes?

Classes must be paid for in advance.  Payments are handled in the Academy 1nternational office on Eaton Road (10am to 6.30pm, Monday – Friday) and can be made in cash or by cheque.  If you would like to pay by bank transfer, please contact us for bank details.

Why do I have to book on for a 10 week course?

Tuition can only be effective if there is a commitment from the student that he or she will attend regularly.  If a student books on for a ten session course, his or her tutor can plan and structure a support programme, safe in the knowledge that the student is committed.

How qualified are the teachers?

All of our tutors have extensive teaching experience and have either worked as teachers in primary and secondary schools or have worked in other, relevant educational establishments.  We require all of our tutors to have relevant, up to date knowledge of the curricula in their specific subject areas.

How do I know my child will be safe?

We take the issue of child safety extremely seriously and the welfare of your child is of the utmost importance to us. All of our tutors undergo stringent police checks and have valid CRB certificates as required by law.  If you are concerned, we recommend that you stay on site while your child’s tuition session takes place.

Can I choose the exact time?

Wherever possible, we always seek to schedule the session in your preferred time slot.  However, we are a busy centre with popular tutors and so this may not always be possible, particularly when you first join.  In such cases, we would ask that you choose the most appropriate available slot, on the understanding that you will be allocated a more preferred time as soon as it becomes available.

How much will my child progress?

The answer to this question varies from person to person and so it is impossible to give a definitive answer.  We treat each of our pupils as individuals using their uniqueness as the basis of the support we provide.  This helps to build the confidence and motivation necessary to ensure lasting progress.  Without further information about your child’s level and abilities, we are unable to offer specific information.  However, thanks to our innovative approach to providing learning support and our proud record in terms of delivering excellent exam results, we are confident that your child will make significant and lasting progress in the area in which they study with us.

Can I wait at the Academy while my child is having tuition?

Of course!  We have a dedicated waiting area for parents where you can relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.  We recommend that you meet with the tutor either before or after the session to discuss your child’s progress and how you can help to supplement the tuition at home.

What happens if I miss a class?

Provided you let us know in advance, a one to one session that you miss can be rescheduled.  However, should you miss a session without giving us at least 24 hours’ notice, we reserve the right to charge you for the session.  This is to cover the cost of the teacher’s time.  Group classes will go ahead regardless of whether there is an absentee or not.

Are you open during school holidays?

Yes, tuition can be arranged at any time throughout the year.  We are flexible and recognise that the school holidays provide the ideal time for students to study more intensely than usual, particularly in the run up to exams.
